Apple Silicon for 2022 Mac Pro Cube Redesign + Intel Updates
Apple offered the Mac Pro a major upgrade in 2019 to replace the Mac Pro trashcan, including the return of the tower style and the Pro Display XDR. Apple will update the Mac Pro for 2022 soon, and there are two options to consider.
Apple Silicon in the next Mac Pro will be the most powerful and even more capable than the M1 Pro or M1 Max. The M1 Pro Max (could be M2 Pro Max by 2022, and it may be revealed at WWDC 2022) will come with a 20-core CPU, 64-core GPU option, and a 40-core CPU, 128-core GPU option for the most demanding professionals. These chips will certainly blow Intel Xeons out of the water.
It was one of Apple’s most significant devices to date, first introduced as the PowerMac during Steve Jobs’ tenure. The PowerMac G4 Cube, on the other hand, was a striking design shift for the time. The G4 cube was half the size of the original PowerMac G4 and earned a lot of accolades for its improvements when it was first introduced. It was 12 times the size of a standard G4, looked futuristic, and was something pros wanted right then and there.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new Mac Pro Cube will look similar to the PowerMac G4 cube but would resemble a G4 Cube mixed with the current cheese grater design. Jon Prosser says it “looks like three or four Mac minis on top of each other.” This shows how Apple is returning to its roots by bringing back some classic things from the Steve Jobs era.
Apple’s current Intel tower has the cheese grater design and is available with the Intel Xeon W 3.5GHz with 8 cores and 16 threads with turbo boosts of up to 4.0GHz, and the Intel Zeon W 3.3GHz with 12 cores and 24 threads, among many others. AMD graphics are offered, and you can add more RAM, and whatever else – it’s the ultimate upgrade machine.
For those of you who like the upgradability of the current Mac Pro, Apple will keep it in the lineup. It will receive updated internals from Intel and stick around for a while before Apple eventually gets rid of it.
